Fagrabjarg ehf. founded in 2025Following my decision to leave the Directorate of Internal Revenue and Customs in the summer of 2025, after more than 16 years of service with the tax authorities, I founded Fagrabjarg ehf.
Through the establishment of the company, my main aim is to offer personal, professional, and reliable legal services in my area of specialization, as well as in matters relating to public administration and communication with government authorities in general such as the District Commissioner in the Capital Area and the Social Insurance Administration. |
EducationI began my law studies at the University of Reykjavík in the autumn of 2005 and completed my BA degree in the spring of 2008. I immediately continued to a master’s program, graduating with an ML in Law in 2010.
During my studies at the University of Reykjavík, I specialized in tax law, taking every available course in the field. My BA thesis focused primarily on income tax law. Personal experienceThroughout my life, I have personally had various dealings with the District Commissioner in the Capital Area, the Social Insurance Administration, and the Icelandic Tax Administration in connection with child support matters following divorce. I have written numerous letters regarding these issues and, through that experience, gained valuable knowledge in this field. I have also learned that many things people believe to be “set in stone” are, in fact, not.

Professional ExperienceIn the spring of 2009, I accepted a summer position at the Hafnarfjörður tax office under the then Director of Taxation for the Reykjanes region. Since then, I have worked for various tax authorities — first at local tax offices, then at the Directorate of Internal Revenue, and currently at the Icelandic Revenue and Customs.
Throughout my career in the tax administration, I have specialized in value-added tax (VAT). I have served as a team leader in charge of VAT assessments and refunds for several years, and later as Head of the VAT Department for multiple years. I have been involved in most legislative and regulatory amendments relating to VAT during my time at the Revenue and Customs. My work has ranged from handling small, straightforward cases to managing large and complex disputes in all areas of VAT law, including submitting numerous cases to the Tax Appeals Board and reviewing whether procedures have complied with administrative law. |
